Our Design

Mechanism of Expansion

The device utilizes pull wires to connect the expandable nitinol braid to a rotary handle. When the rotary handle is turned counter-clockwise, tension is applied to the pull wires that are secured along the nitinol braid. The pull wires apply tension to the nitinol braid so that it compresses axially and expands radially.

Material Composition

The sheath consists of an inner PTFE liner, a nitinol braid, and an outer Pebax jacket. The nitinol braid provides the sheath structure and allows for expansion. The 0.005" thick PTFE liner and 25 durometer Pebax jacket that encase the nitinol braid are compliant to expand and contract with the nitinol braid. They help ensure the safe passage of the sheath through the artery.
